How Do the Medicare Readmission Rules Affect You?

The Medicare 30-Day Readmission rules have already inspired two law suits, one action filed by a class of Medicare patients (Bagnall vs. Sebelius) and the other filed by the American Hospital Association for non-payment of claims.

They have put hospitals and doctors squarely in the middle of uncomfortable government mandates and the patients who ultimately pay the bills.

The rules have further caused considerable consternation on the part of Medicare recipients, who now find themselves having to repeatedly ask what their hospital status might be (Inpatient? Observation?) on a day-to-day basis.

Suffice to say, the Medicare 30-Day Readmission rules, and the Affordable Care Act that inspired them, have only just begun to change the health care landscape. Continue Reading

Shay Jacobson to Speak at IICLE Advanced Personal Injury Law Event  

Shay Jacobson joins a prestigious panel on March 7 to examine issues related to Brain Studies and Psychological Evidence.

The panel is part of an Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) seminar on Advanced Personal Injury Law, held live at the UBS Tower in Chicago and also available via webcast.   

The program offers 4.5 hours of advanced practice guidance on traumatic brain injury, the use of medical and psychological evidence in your case, forensic economics and expert witnesses, and insurance and evidentiary issues.  

Shay brings her years of expertise in nursing, expert testimony and Life Care Planning to the discussion, and is honored to share the table with Attorney George Avgeris and Adjunct Professor David J. Robinson.
